COVID-19

COVID-19

COVID-19 is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Mild cases of COVID-19 may feel like the common cold or flu, but in some instances, symptoms are more severe. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease most commonly spread through small droplets from coughing, sneezing, speaking or singing, and even breathing.

Symptoms of a COVID-19

Symptoms of COVID-19 can appear anywhere from 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus, and their severity can range from mild to severe. Many of these symptoms overlap with those of the common cold or flu. These include common indicators like fever, chills, cough, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion, and a runny nose.

Beyond these general symptoms, COVID-19 often presents with more specific signs. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing are typical for this respiratory illness, and if you’re experiencing trouble breathing, you should contact a medical provider immediately. A notable, though less common, symptom can be a new loss of or a lessened sense of taste or smell, which can strongly indicate a COVID-19 infection.

COVID-19 Treatment

If you suspect you’ve been exposed to COVID-19 or are showing symptoms of the illness, HomeTown Urgent Care’s dedicated team of medical providers is here to help. A test can confirm if you are infected and whether you might need medication to help treat your symptoms.

We offer two main types of testing. Rapid antigen testing is available at our New York locations; this nasal swab test provides results in about 15 minutes. If your rapid test comes back negative, you have the option of taking a confirmatory PCR test. PCR molecular testing is available at all HomeTown Urgent Care locations.
