COVID-19

COVID-19 is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Mild cases may feel like the common cold or flu but in some instances, symptoms are more severe. COVID-19 symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus, ranging from mild to severe.

Symptoms of COVID-19

COVID-19 symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus, ranging from mild to severe. Possible symptoms include:

Cold- or flu-like symptoms

Several symptoms of COVID-19are similar to symptoms of the flu or the common cold. These include fever, chills, cough, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion and runny nose.

Shortness of breath

Difficulty breathing and shortness of breath are also typical symptoms of this respiratory illness. If you are having trouble breathing, contact a medical provider.

Loss of taste and smell

A new loss of or lessened sense of taste or smell may be an indication you are infected withCOVID-19. While loss of taste and smell are less common symptoms, they can still be indicators of a COVID-19infection.

COVID-19 Testing and Treatment

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and/or are showing symptoms of the illness, our dedicated team of medical providers can help. A test can confirm if you are infected and if you need medication to help treat your symptoms.

Rapid testing

Rapid antigen testing is available at our New York locations. It is a nasal swab test, and results are available in about 15 minutes. If your rapid test results are negative, you have the option of taking a confirmatory PCR test.

PCR testing

PCR molecular testing is
available at all Hometown locations. This nasal swab test is sent to a local lab partner and results are typically available in 48-72 hours.

Paxlovid

Based on your past medical history, you may qualify for Paxlovid, a prescription medicine for COVID-19. When you see one of our providers, they will discuss with you if you qualify for Paxlovid and if it is right for you.

Answers to Common Questions About COVID-19

If you develop new COVID-19 symptoms, it's important to take them seriously, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are at high risk for severe illness.

At Hometown Urgent Care, our dedicated medical team can help. We recommend that you:

  • Consider a visit to Hometown Urgent Care: We offer comprehensive evaluations for COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. Our providers can assess your symptoms, discuss your medical history, and determine the most appropriate next steps, including testing if necessary.
  • Isolate yourself: To prevent potential spread, it's advisable to stay home and away from others as much as possible until you've been evaluated by a medical professional.
  • Monitor your symptoms: Pay attention to how you're feeling. If your symptoms worsen or you experience emergency warning signs (such as trouble breathing, persistent chest pain or pressure, new confusion, inability to wake or stay awake, or pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds), seek emergency medical attention immediately.

Even if you've had COVID-19 before, you can still get re-infected. Our team at Hometown Urgent Care focuses on a symptomatic approach to ensure you receive the care you need to feel better, faster.

At Hometown Urgent Care, we aim to provide you with your COVID-19 PCR test results as quickly and conveniently as possible.

  • Turnaround Time: PCR test results are typically available within 48-72 hours. Please note that during periods of high testing volume, turnaround times may occasionally be longer.
  • How to Access Results: While the exact method may vary slightly, generally you can expect to receive your results through one of the following ways:
    • Patient Portal: Many urgent care centers utilize a secure online patient portal where you can log in to view your results once they are ready. You would typically receive an email or text notification when results are posted.
    • Direct Contact: For positive results, or if there are any urgent concerns, a medical professional from Hometown Urgent Care may contact you directly by phone.
    • In-Person (less common): While most results are delivered electronically, in some cases, you might be instructed to pick up a printed copy if necessary.

Our team will provide you with specific instructions on how to retrieve your results at the time of your test. If you have any questions or have not received your results within the expected timeframe, please contact your Hometown Urgent Care location.
